Gifts of Stock
Gifts of stock can result in a double tax benefit for the donor as there is no capital gain tax on appreciated shares, and there can be a deduction for the charitable contribution.
For direct transfer of shares, provide these transfer instructions to your broker or financial firm, so they can complete the transfer to our investment manager, New Covenant Trust Co. Please instruct your broker to specify your name in the transfer.
For those using a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) to donate appreciated stock, transfer the stock to the DAF, and from there make the transfer to the church. This can often be done easily by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Work with your financial firm if you have any questions. Multiple years worth of stock gifts can be transferred to the DAF at once, to optimize the tax deduction. Then you can manage paying out the gifts via EFT to the church and other charities using online access over time.
Please contact our church accountant, Rick Foulke, at RFoulke@FPCLG.org or 630.366.9782 to notify him of the transfer.
