Electronics Recycling
and Paper Shredding
Event

Saturday, September 19
10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
150 S. Ashland Ave., La Grange
First Presbyterian Church Parking Lot
Enter from Ashland Ave., exit on Catherine Ave.

This free event will be managed by the Cook County Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM for short). FPCLG is partnering with the La Grange Rotary Club and also Community Assisted Rides (CARS) to support this event.

Electronics and small appliances: computers, computer accessories, gaming devices, televisions, mobile devices, printers, air conditioners, microwaves, small kitchen appliances, etc. Anything with a plug or battery that can fit in the trunk of a car. CHaRM disposes of these sustainably through certified recycling partners. Since these devices contain toxic metals like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic, they are banned from landfills and need to be recycled.

Paper shredding: Household documents (limit 2 bags per car). Staples and plastic covers are okay, but no binder clips. On‑site document destruction ensures your confidential materials are shredded securely. All shredded paper is recycled, which saves trees and reduces methane emissions from landfills.

Note: Area seniors can contact Community Assisted Rides at 708.354.9328 by Friday, September 11, to register for a pick-up on the day of the event.

Blue Violet Duo

Blue Violet Duo “excel at both extremes, from the nuanced and restrained to the incandescent and extravagant” (Stringendo magazine). Formed in 2013, the Chicago based duo was born of a friendship and musical kinship and enjoyed immediate recognition, winning a competition that led to their performance in Carnegie’s Weill Hall in New York in February of 2014. Their critically acclaimed 2018 debut album, American Souvenirs, funded in part by a grant from Chicago’s DCASE, was selected as WFMT’s “New Release of the Day” in October 2018. Their second album, Strike, Strum and Stride, was supported by a grant from the Chicago Musicians Club of Women. They have been invited for repeat performances on the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series and many other series in the Chicagoland area and beyond. The duo enjoys bringing to light lesser-known, engaging works to surprise and delight audiences everywhere. www.bluevioletduo.com

Spirits and Spirituality

Looking for good conversation, great people and a relaxed way to connect with your community? Join us for Spirits and Spirituality, a casual gathering on the second Tuesday of each month at Barrel House Social, 100 W. Burlington Ave. in La Grange.

Enjoy drink specials and appetizers beginning at 5:30 p.m. before we settle in for conversation at 6:00 p.m.

Each month, we’ll discuss current topics, share different perspectives and explore where faith, life and the world around us intersect. There’s no lecture, no pressure and no expectation that everyone agrees. Just thoughtful discussion, plenty of laughs and the opportunity to connect with some genuinely welcoming people.

Whether you’re a member of First Presbyterian Church of La Grange, new to the area, curious about faith or simply looking for meaningful conversation, you’re invited. Come grab a drink, pull up a chair and join us for an evening of community, connection and conversation.

Next Gathering: Tuesday, September 8

Partnership with Living Waters for the World

First Presbyterian Church of La Grange currently has covenants with six partner communities in El Salvador. We have been supporting El Espino with upgrades that allow their water team to produce much more clean water that the community desperately needs. We sent a team to El Paraíso in 2022, to San Cristóbal in 2023, to San Rafael Cedros in 2024, to Mercedes Umaña in 2025 and to Potrero Grande in 2026 to aid in the construction of water purification systems with accompanying public health education for their communities. We hope to sign our seventh covenant and return to El Salvador in 2027.
Contact the Church Office at admin@fpclg.org to find out how to get involved!
