The Ministry to the World Community

The congregation at First Presbyterian Church commits itself to serving others in our community and around the world. While we set aside between 12-13% of our annual budget for missions, we strive to reach out both near and far with gifts of time, talents, and energy as well. Our far reaching mission projects include:

Approximately half of the money that falls within the Mission and Outreach budget supports projects determined by the General Assembly of the Chicago Presbytery. These are used by the Presbyterian Church at large to fund economic development projects around the world. FPCLG directly funds or supports the following projects:

CROP Walk - is a Fall opportunity to walk the streets of LaGrange and help the hungry. This effort began after WWII when Midwest farmers sent surplus crops to war-torn Europe. Volunteers are needed to walk and to sponsor walkers, as well as to help with overall organization of this effort. The CROP Walk is usually held a Sunday afternoon in October. The money is distributed by Church World Service to needy locations around the world. A portion is allocated to our sister chuch, First Presbyterian Church of Chicago.

Sponsorship of Palestinian Christian Students - We sponsor children in the West Bank. Find out more here.

Intercambio Cultural de Yucatan - During the summer for ten to fourteen days, members of the church and other churches in the Presbytery travel to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to work on a construction project. We participate either through direct financial support or by sending volunteers.

A Greater Gift Sale (formerly SERVV) - In late Fall, a Christmas shop is set up in Fellowship Hall where members can buy items handcrafted by artisans from third-world nations. FPCLG keeps no proceeds from this sale.

Heifer International- We make direct financial donations to fund farm animals in third world nations. The children of Faith Forest also raises money to buy pigs, sheep, or chicks for developing nations. Each year they vote on a particular animal and their weekly offerings support this project. These gifts help a family at a time be self-sustaining. Find out for at the Heifer International website.

Your help in always needed in missions - whether it is in the form of a donation of time, money, physical labor, or a gift.
