Small Groups
It's easy to get lost in a crowd, to feel lonely even though you may be surrounded by worshippers on a given Sunday.
It is important for everyone to have the opportunity to be known and cared for and to find their niche in ministry.
People grow spiritually in a caring, interactive group where they can ask honest questions and feel the support of the group.
The following are some of the Small Groups available at First Presbyterian Church of La Grange. We hope you will feel welcome
to join any of them.
Your thoughts and ideas on possible future groups are encouraged and welcome.
SUNDAY MORNING GROUPS:
9:00 a.m. Searchers & Seekers,
Room G-10 (Lower Level), share Bible study, engaging discussions
and lots of laughter! Come each week or come when you are able. Childcare is provided (Nursery for infants and 3rd floor Youth Room for older children)
WEEKDAY GROUPS:
Mid-week Bible Study - All are invited for bible study. This group
meets on Wednesdays at 10:00 am, in the parlor. You are invited to join anytime for Bible study, prayer, fellowship and discussion.
Men's Bible Study - Join others on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m., in the parlor.
The conversation will be lively and all men are invited to join anytime for Bible study, prayer, fellowship and discussion.
Women’s Bible Study meets on Wednesday mornings (during school year) from
9:00 - 10:30 am. Childcare is provided. Each year the group focuses on a specific book. For more information, call Leigh
Hall at 708.579.3015 or the church office.
FPCLG Play Group - The Playgroup meets the first and third Friday of each month in the Nursery. When the weather
is nice, the group instead meets at various local parks. As Christian friends - moms, dads, and caregivers -they support one another during the years of parenting
small children. They also sponsor social events, such as Pizza Night, Parents' Potluck, and Women's Wine & Cheese
Nights. Newcomers are always welcome. Contact Kelly Picton or the church office to receive a schedule or for questions.
The Positive Parenting Network is a community-wide forum
which provides monthly speakers discussing a variety of parenting and child-rearing related topics in the evening.
PPN is on hiatus; but hopefully will return in 2008.
Smart Strength meets Wednesdays at 1 p.m. October - May.
Join Allyson Metcalf for an hour of Pilates. Focusing on the stabilization and flexibility of the spine
through the correct engagement of the "core" muscles of the trunk,
participants will develop the awareness and balance of strength and
flexibility to improve posture and avoid common back pain and injury.
Experience in Pilates is not required, but participants who are new to the
practice should be sure to attend the classes in October, when essential
principles and skills will be taught and reviewed. (Note: The group
format is not suitable for individuals with osteoporosis, or certain other
spinal conditions.). Please bring your own exercise mat.
This class is free of charge and childcare is provided. Space is limited so please contact the office to register.
Mom's Coffee is held the first Wednesday of the month at Caribou Coffee at 8:00 p.m.
All moms of any age with children of any age are welcome. You don't even need to drink coffee; just join us for conversation!
Evening In Depth Bible Study This group gathers at different periods throughout the
year to engage in study and discusions. It typically meets at the church for six week sessions.
Jon & Leigh Hall lead this group (though new groups & leaders are welcome). Childcare is provided. For information, contact Jon or Leigh Hall or the church office.
Presbyterian Women - Presbyterian Women (open to all women in the church) offers several small groups; including
bible study, book club, sewing circle as well as monthly luncheons. Please refer to the Presbyterian Women Link for additional information.
Choirs - First Presbyterian has several handbell and vocal choirs for those with musical interest. Please refer to the Worship, Music &
Arts link for further details.
Senior/Retired Group - This small group just officially began meeting in the Spring of 2007. The goal is to continue meeting every other month (probably on a Saturday afternoon) for a
program and a meal (lunch or dinner). The group meets at the church and all are welcome. Transportation will be arranged for those in need; just contact the church office. It is a great way to stay connected
with each other and share conversations.
Men's Basketball - Each Sunday evening, join others in a game of pick-up basketball at 5:30 p.m. at Waiola Park in LaGrange (on Waiola just south of 47th Street).
Come once or come every week. The goal is fun, fellowship, and some exercise. Bring the family,
as there is a park and plenty of open space for the kids. We try and play despite the weather, but assume it is cancelled in the case of steady rain.
Contact Paul Stockbridge with questions or to get on the e-mail list.
Dinners for Eight - are scheduled from October to May. The goal is for each couple (or pair of singles)
to have dinner with three different couples at each of 4 rotations held throughout the year. It is a great way to really connect with others in a small setting.
Be sure to sign up in the Fall or contact the office to be added to the subsitute list.
