The Ministry to the Local & World Community

The congregation at First Presbyterian Church commits itself to serving others in our community and the world. While we set aside between 12-13% of our annual budget for missions, we strive to reach out both near and far with gifts of time, talents, and energy as well. A brief description of some of our current projects may provide you with a way to "put your hands on mission."

Through financial resources and hands-on activities, the Mission and Outreach Committee provides assistance to a wide variety of programs within the community, the Presbytery and throughout the world.

Approximately half of the money that falls within the Mission and Outreach budget supports projects determined by the General Assembly of the Chicago Presbytery. The rest of the funds are designated -
with approval of our church Session - for projects selected by the committee. We have a variety of programs in which you can hands-on put your faith into action, such as in the following areas:

  • Mission Night Join us each month in fellowship to serve others by cooking, bagging candy & cookies, packing relief kits, and assembling supplies for local and world-wide use.
  • Firman House Christmas Party Bring good cheer to disadvantaged children on Chicago's South Side.
  • LaGrange-area mission work Help the poor, homeless, or friendless in our immediate community.
  • Chicago area.Make a difference throughout our city.
  • World-wide There are ways to help financially or by traveling to another place to perform the good works of Jesus.
