Ministry of Music

The ministry of music at First Presbyterian Church is a broad program that has developed over the years and is based upon the needs of our growing congregation. In its present form, it offers opportunities for musicians of all ages to participate. It is a spiritual ministry—having a biblical foundation supported by the fellowship of loving Christians in a musical setting and is designed to complement the total ministry of the church. Membership is always open, and interested persons are encouraged to join at any time no matter what their musical ability. We currently offer the following music groups:

Cherub Choir - The first choral experience for singers is open to children ages four through Kindergarten. They sing occasionally during worship services and rehearse on Sunday mornings at 10:45. Join Director Jason Fahrenbach in the Choir Room during the school year for a lot of fun with singing!

Crusader Choir - This second choral experience is open to all children in Grades 1-5. They sing periodically during worship services and rehearse during the school year with Director Anna Riddle on Sundays from 10:30-11:10 a.m. Each spring, a musical is presented to the congregation. Join the choir anytime.

NOW Music - This Choir for youth in Grades 6-12 sings occasionally at one of the Sunday worship services. Rehearsals are held on Sundays at 12:15 p.m. with Anna Riddle.

Sanctuary Choir - This choir, conducted by Jason Fahrenbach, provides music leadership for the 9:30 a.m. Traditional Sunday worship service on a regular basis. In addition, it presents several major concerts throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 8:30 a.m. in the Choir Room. Membership is open to all who want to further their musical skills, regardless of their level. Newcomers are always welcome.

Contemporary Music Team - Express your love for the Lord with a contemporary flair at our 11:15 a.m. Contemporary Sunday worship service. Song choices are a blend of newer and traditional songs that have been updated. We are looking for additional worship team members in the age range of teen to adult: guitar players, keyboard players, percussion and singers. Basic skill levels and a good sense of rhythm are beneficial. Practices are Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m., and a mid-week practice will sometimes be required. Our contemporary music team is led by Ray Tabor.

Handbells I & II - Two handbell choirs provide music for various worship services in the Sanctuary and in the community. Handbells I meets on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m., and Handbells II meets on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Both groups meet in the Choir Loft.
